About Mike Cox

For his entire life, Mike Cox has been fighting for the citizens of Michigan. A former Marine, prosecutor and current Attorney General, Cox has worked hard to get people lower health care rates and utility bills, helped families avoid foreclosure, fought corruption and crime, and stood up to the powerful special interests in Lansing.

As Attorney General, Mike Cox has stood up to the powerful to protect the people. Cox has taken on financial firms such as AIG and Bear Stearns, mortgage giants such as Countrywide and Ameriquest, health care giant Blue Cross and major drug and pharmaceutical companies such as Merck and Eli Lilly to fight on behalf of Michigan citizens.

The chief executive of the state’s largest law firm, the Department of Attorney General, Cox has made a name for himself as a strong leader, willing to make bold moves to produce record-setting results.

Cox has worked tirelessly to protect the pocketbooks of everyone in Michigan. More than 50,000 citizens have benefited from Mike Cox's involvement with mortgage foreclosures, and because of aggressive settlements by his office, millions of dollars have been recovered and returned to cities, charitable institutions and citizens. Since 2003, the AG's office has saved utility customers more than $2.4 billion in what would have been higher utility costs.

Since being Attorney General, Cox has successfully worked to create innovative programs including:

  • A first-of-its-kind child support unit which has helped thousands of children directly receive the child support they deserve
  • A prescription drug website, MichiganDrugPrices.com (www.michigandrugprices.com), helping hundreds of thousands of consumers and seniors save money by comparing prices on medications
  • Forums to help tens of thousands people avoid mortgage foreclosure by bringing the nation’s largest mortgage lenders, HUD-approved non-profit financial counselors and state officials to cities across Michigan to help consumers keep their homes
  • The first online account of state government spending where taxpayers can look at financial information about the AG’s office, including spending on salaries and wages, information technology, rent, and travel costs (www.michigan.gov/trackyourtaxes)
  • And, most recently, the Senior Brigade website (www.seniorbrigade.com) , a one-stop website for seniors to deliver information about health care, financial matters, consumer protection issues, and veteran’s affairs.

As a leader, Cox has also stood up for the policies of lower taxes and economic freedom. And, Cox has defended the American auto industry through a series of lawsuits and in testimony before Congress.

Cox has never been afraid to stand up for policies and principles that are right for Michigan.

A little league soccer coach, and father of four, Mike Cox is married to Laura Cox. Together they reside in Livonia, only miles from where Mike Cox grew up.
